The Keys family purchased the farm in 2005 and continues to make major improvements. Our family has deep roots in Washington County and the village of Lone Pine.
The farm was homesteaded in 1796 by Solomon Sibbett, the great, great, great, great grandfather of Arthur Keys. He built our stone farmhouse and old springhouse in 1807. The farmstead is intact and remained in the possession of the descendants of Solomon Sibbett for most of its history.
Our mission is to provide quality and healthy food and agricultural products to our customers using sustainable methods that enhance the soil, pasture, water and woodlands on our farm, protect the environment, respect the livestock, and support a vibrant rural economy and community.
Keystone farm is a growing agricultural enterprise that fills a need for healthy and sustainable products. Our pastures and hay are organic and certified by Pennsylvania Certified Organic, www.paorganic.org, and we are members of the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, www.pasafarming.org. We have a growing and satisfied customer base.
The farm holds registered Hereford cattle that graze the organic pastures and sell as all natural grass fed beef that is sold individually, to conference centers, and at the Peters Township farmers market.
In 2015 the Keys family were reciepients of the Washington County Conservation District's Farmer of the year award. This award praised the sustainable agriculture practices on the farm. The award is featured in an article in Lancaster Farming.
All members of the family are involved in farm operations and we have additional assistance from our cousins and other helpers.
